A message is being spread on social media and WhatsApp in the Prime Minister's name claiming the government is giving every citizen Rs 8,000 for Diwali. According to Amar Ujala, the Kumaon range cyber police station has issued an alert: the central government has announced no such scheme. Clicking the link can take people to a fake website that asks for their name, mobile number and bank details, which can be used to take money from their accounts. According to Navbharat Live, PIB has also called the message fake. What to do: do not open the link and do not share your OTP, UPI PIN or bank details with anyone. When shopping online for Diwali, avoid unknown sellers and paying through unknown links; do not click links about gifts or stuck deliveries either. STF IG Nilesh Anand Bharne has said to complain at once on 1930 in case of cyber fraud.
