Rudrapur: No radiologist at district hospital or medical college, ultrasound machines worth lakhs lie idle

There is not a single radiologist at the district hospital or the Government Medical College in Rudrapur, Udham Singh Nagar, leaving ultrasound machines worth lakhs of rupees lying idle. The radiologist posted at the district hospital was transferred three months ago and the post has been vacant since. Every day 150 to 200 patients come to the hospital for an ultrasound, more than 60 per cent of them pregnant women. After a doctor prescribes the test, patients find the ultrasound room locked and have to pay ₹800 to ₹1,500 at private centres. The radiologist's post at the medical college is also vacant. A pregnant woman from Dineshpur said a private centre was asking for ₹1,200, and a patient from Kichha said he had been making rounds for three days. Medical college principal Dr CP Bhaisora said radiologists are posted by the government, a proposal has been sent and ultrasound services at the hospital are expected to resume soon.
