The eight-bed trauma centre on the premises of the L.D. Bhatt Sub-District Hospital in Kashipur is still without specialist doctors 18 years after it was inaugurated. According to Amar Ujala, then Chief Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank inaugurated it on May 31, 2008, but no surgeon, orthopaedic surgeon or anaesthetist has been posted there to date. As a result, road accident victims brought from Bazpur, Jaspur, Sultanpur Patti, Kelakhera and Ramnagar, besides Kashipur, are referred to higher centres after first aid, and they sometimes die on the way for want of timely treatment. Kashipur hospital CMS Dr Sandeep Dixit said that because of the shortage of staff, children are now being admitted to the trauma centre, and no separate doctor or staff has been posted for it.
