A sample of Mother Dairy's packed cow milk taken in Haldwani failed to meet the standard at the State Food and Drug Laboratory in Rudrapur and then, on appeal, at the Central Food Laboratory in Ghaziabad. According to Dainik Bhaskar, the food safety department took the sample from a distributor at Bholanath Garden in the Haldwani municipal area on August 5. The central lab's October 21 report found 2.9% fat, while the minimum standard is 3.2% and the pack said 4%. On this basis the sample has been declared sub-standard and misbranded under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The department says the process of legal action against the food businesses concerned and the company has begun as per the rules. This is the report on one sample and it concerns low fat. Mother Dairy's response is not in these reports.
