Seventeen road crashes killed 21 people and injured more than 16 in Udham Singh Nagar between October 25 and November 2. According to an Amar Ujala investigation, the crashes took place from Khatima to Kichha, Pantnagar, Jaspur and Bajpur, while the attention of the police, administration and transport department is mostly on big cities such as Rudrapur and Kashipur. The paper says more than six lives were lost in the Khatima area alone. Towns have about 60 to 80 police personnel, but citing sources it writes that only five to seven are left for traffic and highway patrol. DM Nitin Singh Bhadauria said black spots have been identified, the cut at Pulbhatta has been closed and a DPR for a flyover there has been sent to the government. The police have been given 50 home guards and 100 PRD personnel. ARTO Mohit Kothari said drives will also be run in small towns.
