Kashipur cancels tehbazari contract, municipal corporation staff to collect the fee themselves; mayor says rates not raised, list to be made public

In Kashipur, tehbazari (the fee for setting up a stall in markets and by the roadside) will now be collected by the municipal corporation itself instead of a contractor. According to Hindustan, Mayor Deepak Bali announced the cancellation of the collection contract at a press conference at the corporation office on Thursday. According to Dainik Bhaskar, the contract was cancelled after discussions with councillors and officials following complaints of misbehaviour during collection. The mayor said the fee has not been raised and the old rates will continue; the rates and slabs will be made public, and action will be taken on any complaint of misbehaviour by corporation staff. He said a control room on the corporation premises is nearly ready to monitor garbage vehicles fitted with RFID tags, and 150 CCTV cameras will be installed in the city in the first phase. He also promised action on the jams caused by weekly markets on Aliganj Road and Sugar Factory Road and against shopkeepers who spread their stalls onto the road. Municipal commissioner Ravindra Singh Bisht was also present at the press conference.
