Indefinite sit-in begins at Chhatarpur railway crossing over four demands including a flyover; traffic stuck for 2.5 to 3 hours when the gate is shut

Residents began an indefinite sit-in at the Chhatarpur railway crossing on Thursday, demanding a flyover at the crossing, widening of the Gadarpur-Matkota road, stoppage of passenger trains at Chhatarpur railway station and compensation for the families of those killed in road accidents. According to Hindustan, the protesters said people are stuck in jams for two and a half to three hours when the railway gate is closed, troubling office-goers, students and traders. The flyover has been demanded for about six years; a long sit-in held then ended on an assurance from the administration. The protesters say construction has still not started despite approval from the Centre and the state government. According to Dainik Bhaskar, the protesters say several dozen people have died in road accidents on the Gadarpur-Matkota road in five years, and only goods trains run through Chhatarpur station at present. Village representatives from Jainagar and Buksaura and kshetra panchayat members also joined the sit-in.
