Rudrapur: Cervical cancer screening begins at district hospital, Pap smear and HPV-DNA tests now available here

A special cancer OPD for cervical cancer screening of women has started at the district hospital run under the medical college. Pap smear, HPV and HPV-DNA tests will be done here, with a target of screening 300 patients a day. According to OPD in-charge Dr Vandana Shukla, the HPV virus is the main cause of cervical cancer; a permanent arrangement has been made for oral, cervical and breast cancer screening, along with a separate cervical ward. According to Principal Dr CP Bhaisora, women earlier had to go to Haldwani or private labs for such tests. According to CMO Dr SK Goswami, poor women will get the tests free of cost and cancer can be detected at an early stage. (Source: Amar Ujala)
