Uttarakhand's first anti-narcotics police station planned in Rudrapur: police HQ sends government a proposal for 32 posts

Under the drug-free Uttarakhand campaign, preparations are under way to open the state's first anti-narcotics police station in Rudrapur. According to Dainik Jagran, the police headquarters has sent the government a proposal to create 32 posts for it; the proposal says about 70 posts are needed for the whole narcotics set-up. Drug-trafficking cases have risen in and around Rudrapur; the international border with Nepal is close and there are direct links to Punjab, which is why the first station is proposed here. A three-tier structure against drugs is being built in the state, at the state, district and police-station levels. The narcotics headquarters now has 20 posts, filled by staff on deputation from other police branches; new posts from DIG to driver will also be created in a narcotics directorate. Home secretary Shailesh Bagauli said the proposal has been received from the police headquarters and is being studied. (Source: Dainik Jagran)
