Farmers held protests on two issues in Bajpur on Monday. According to Hindustan, farmers and mill employees led by Bharatiya Kisan Union national vice-president Karm Singh Padda staged a token dharna in front of the mill's administrative building against a plan to shift four Gadarpur-area cane purchase centres from the Bajpur cooperative sugar mill to the Sitarganj mill, and gave SDM Richa Singh a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister. It said the Bajpur mill has a crushing capacity of 4,000 TCD but received only 15 lakh quintals of cane in 2025-26. Employees also asked for the benefit of the revised 2016 pay scale. Gadarpur farmers had earlier demanded that their cane go to the Sitarganj mill. Separately, at the SDM office, farmers demanded a fair survey and quick compensation for paddy and sugarcane crops destroyed by the October 9 storm and hail, and warned of a wider agitation if their demands are not met.
