Cyber fraud: ₹3.94 lakh taken via UPI from a Pantnagar professor's account with no SMS on his phone; ₹1 lakh lost from a credit card in Transit Camp through a reward-points link

Two new cyber fraud cases have been registered in the district. According to Hindustan, ₹3,94,949.65 was withdrawn via UPI from the SBI account of a professor at Pantnagar University at about 11 am on October 24. He was busy with teaching and practical work at the university at the time, and no message came from the bank on his phone despite such a large sum being taken. He complained on the cybercrime portal and then gave a complaint at Pantnagar police station; police have registered a case against an unknown fraudster under section 318(4) of the BNS. In the second case, a man in Rudrapur got a call on October 23 in which he was sent a link with the lure of raising his credit card reward points; as soon as he opened the link, ₹1 lakh was taken from his credit card in two transactions. According to CO Vibhav Saini, a case has been registered against an unknown accused at Transit Camp police station. Do not open unknown links sent over the phone; if you are cheated, call 1930 at once or complain at cybercrime.gov.in.
