Kashipur's Mahuakheda Ganj primary school building crumbling: 140 children in five rooms, two rooms shut, plaster falling from three; children sit in the veranda when it rains

The building of the government primary school at Mahuakheda Ganj in Kashipur has become dilapidated. According to Amar Ujala, two of the school's seven rooms have been shut because of the danger, and 140 children are studying in the remaining five. In three of these the ceiling plaster is coming off because of damp and the roof leaks in the rain, when the children are made to sit in the veranda. The lack of space also makes it hard for the children to sit. Head teacher Rajendra Singh said proposals for repairs and a new building have been sent several times. Block education officer Dhirendra Kumar Sahu said the proposals have been sent to senior officers and the building will be repaired once approval comes.
