Rudrapur: District hospital's only lift out of order for 16 days, patients forced to climb 33 steps

The only lift at the district hospital run under the medical college has been out of order for 16 days. More than 500 patients visit the hospital every day, and the lift is the only option for elderly people, pregnant women and seriously ill patients. Reaching the general ward on the third floor means climbing 33 steps, while the gynaecology, dialysis and ICU units on the second floor also need more than 20 steps. According to patients and their families, elderly people have to stop and rest every few steps and women carrying small children are struggling. According to Medical College Principal Dr CP Bhaisora, the problem has been noted, some parts for the lift have to come from outside, and it will be repaired and restored soon. (Source: Amar Ujala)
