On the directions of DM Nitin Singh Bhadauria, a food safety department team raided places in Kichha, Chhatarpur and Jainagar on Tuesday and took a total of 5 samples, in a drive against adulteration ahead of Diwali. According to Hindustan, the team was led by Assistant Commissioner (Food Safety) Lalit Mohan Pandey. One sample each of sooji cake and soybean oil was taken from a sweets factory in Kichha, and of namkeen and soan papdi from marts in Chhatarpur and Jainagar; the report gives no details of the fifth sample. The samples will go to the State Food and Drug Laboratory, Rudrapur, and action will follow if they fail to meet standards; results are not yet in. Traders were told to keep premises clean and not to sell suspect goods. Sweets and bakery items sold loose must carry manufacturing and expiry dates. The department has asked people to check these dates and the trader's licence when buying. Complaints about poor or unhygienic food can be made on the toll-free number 18001804246.
