Factory workers returning from Rudrapur to Haldwani have car stopped and smashed on Tanda forest road: five to six men with sticks accused of attack and death threats; police scanning CCTV footage

A car carrying factory workers was attacked on the Tanda forest road between Haldwani and Rudrapur late on Wednesday night. According to Amar Ujala, two workers returning home to Haldwani from a car factory in Udham Singh Nagar told police that a speeding vehicle coming from the Rudrapur side overtook them and stopped their car about 200 metres past the forest outpost on Rampur Road. It is alleged that five to six men got out carrying sticks, launched a life-threatening attack on them, damaged the entire car and fled towards Rudrapur after threatening to kill them. On their complaint, Haldwani kotwali police have registered a case and begun an investigation. SP City Harbans Singh said footage from CCTV cameras around the forest outpost is being examined and the accused will be arrested soon once the vehicle is traced. The attackers have not yet been identified. The report does not give the reason for the attack or details of any injuries to the workers. In its own check on November 4, Amar Ujala reported that the roughly 21 km stretch from the forest outpost to the Pantnagar bypass has no street lights and no SOS boxes.
