Rudrapur: Kashipur Bypass Road to be widened to 120 feet, shopkeepers demolish encroachments themselves fearing bulldozers

About Rs 13.93 crore has been sanctioned by the government for widening the Kashipur Bypass Road. Under the plan, the road will be widened by 60 feet on either side of the divider, a total of 120 feet, which is expected to ease traffic jams for those travelling from Rudrapur towards Kashipur. In a survey, the Public Works Department and the district administration had marked 56 shops and buildings as encroachments; on August 5 a bulldozer was used on two shops and the remaining 54 were warned to remove their encroachments themselves. Now most shopkeepers are hiring labourers to tear down the sunshades and tin sheds of up to 8 to 10 feet extended in front of their shops. According to officials, the bulldozer will be used again on those who have not removed encroachments, and widening will begin as soon as the encroachments are cleared. (Source: Amar Ujala)
