Construction of the first phase of the Rs 786.73 crore master drainage plan, drawn up for Rudrapur's long-standing waterlogging problem, is targeted to begin in the first week of December. According to Hindustan and Dainik Bhaskar, this was stated at MLA Shiv Arora's review meeting with Irrigation Department officials. Rs 441.79 crore has been set for the first phase and about Rs 344.94 crore for the second. In the first phase, Rs 390.39 crore will go on the main construction work. Its tender is complete and the Irrigation Department has issued a letter of intent to Mateshwari Construction of Aurangabad (Bihar). The remaining Rs 51.40 crore or so will go on shifting the lines of electricity, drinking water, telephone and other departments. The company has to deposit about Rs 11.83 crore as additional and performance security. According to Bhaskar, work is likely to begin once the departmental process is completed in the next two weeks. The reports do not say when the work will be completed or which areas will come under the first phase.
