How to lodge an FIR (Zero FIR, e-FIR)

1. 1If there is danger, call 112 first.
2. 2Go to the nearest police station and state what happened, orally or in writing; the police read it back and take your signature.
3. 3Even if the place of the incident falls under another station, the FIR can be lodged where you are (Zero FIR); it is forwarded to the right station.
4. 4On the Uttarakhand Police citizen portal an e-FIR can be lodged online for some kinds of cases; information given online must be signed at the station within three days.
5. 5A copy of the FIR is free; note the FIR number and the station. Later, case status can be checked on e-Courts by FIR number.
6. 6If the station refuses, send the written complaint to the SSP by post or e-mail; if still nothing happens, an application can be made to the Magistrate.
