Rudrapur medical college gets nod for 100 MBBS seats: classes to begin from 2027-28 session, Centre issues directions to NMC

The way has been cleared for Pt Ram Sumer Shukla Memorial Government Medical College, Rudrapur, to run with 100 MBBS seats from the 2027-28 academic session. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said on social media site X that the Central government has issued the necessary directions in this regard to the National Medical Commission (NMC). He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda for the decision. According to Amar Ujala, admission and running of the college will go ahead only in line with the NMC's regulatory provisions. That means the first batch will come in the 2027-28 session, not this year. Only a day earlier it was reported that the college's name was missing from the NMC list for the fourth time in a row; inspections had found a shortage of faculty and unfinished construction of the hostel and critical care block. According to ETV Bharat, adding Rudrapur's seats will raise MBBS seats in the state's government medical colleges from 675 to 775.
