The rising level of the Nanak Sagar reservoir in Nanakmatta has flooded the areas around many homes in Devipur, Gidhaur and Gyanpur Gaudi villages. According to Hindustan, villagers had been demanding for the past two days that water be released from the reservoir. On Thursday, villagers led by Gurnam Singh gathered near the Nanak Sagar barrage, raised slogans against the Uttar Pradesh irrigation department and sat in protest. Irrigation department junior engineer Mahendra Singh put the villagers on the phone with Puneet Kumar Gupta, executive engineer of the Bareilly irrigation division, who assured them that water would be released from the reservoir in small amounts from Friday. The villagers then ended their sit-in. (Source: Hindustan)
