₹1.73 lakh was taken from the bank account of a Rudrapur man after he clicked a link in an SMS sent in the name of a traffic challan. According to Amar Ujala, the man, a resident of Azad Nagar (Ward 7) in Transit Camp, told police he received an SMS about a challan on his mobile. After he clicked the link, errors began appearing on the phone, which he ignored. At about 5 pm on October 9, the phone began updating by itself. After that, ₹80,000 went from his account at the Baheri branch of Nainital Bank to a UPI ID through Google Pay, and then ₹93,511 went to a collect ID registered as 'Klook Travel'. He says some codes were also sent from his phone to different numbers. CO Vibhav Saini said an FIR has been registered against unknown persons and the case is being investigated. Remember: do not click unknown links sent in the name of a challan, check challans only on the transport department's website echallan.parivahan.gov.in, and if you are cheated, call 1930 at once.
