Supreme Court order on businesses in residential buildings worries hundreds of traders in Rudrapur, Kashipur; Vyapar Mandal asks government to argue case in court

A Supreme Court order on commercial activity in residential colonies has worried hundreds of traders in Udham Singh Nagar district. According to Amar Ujala, in Rudrapur, Kashipur and most other towns in the district, a large number of shops, offices, coaching centres, beauty parlours, clinics, godowns and small factories run from buildings meant for residential use. Rudrapur Vyapar Mandal president Sanjay Juneja said the state's geography does not allow shops, hotels and homes to be separate, so the state government should argue the matter in the Supreme Court. Ashwani Chhabra, state vice-president of the Prantiya Udyog Vyapar Pratinidhi Mandal, said the ruling would leave thousands unemployed. According to Kashipur advocate Shailendra Mishra, the order covers banks, big hotels and coaching centres, not grocery shops. Rudrapur advocate Amit Kalra said a proper decision should be taken only after checking each establishment's permission and land use. (Source: Amar Ujala)
