Rudrapur Medical College hopes to get nod for 100 MBBS seats this session, awaits letter of permission

Rudrapur Medical College is hoping to get permission to admit students to 100 MBBS seats from this academic session (2026-27). The college had applied to the National Medical Commission (NMC), but the Medical Assessment and Rating Board did not approve it, finding the infrastructure and facilities inadequate for 100 seats. A first appeal to the NMC upheld that decision, after which a second appeal was filed with the Centre, and the shortcomings found during inspection, including those related to faculty, were addressed. Director of Medical Education Dr Ashutosh Sayana said the necessary shortcomings have been removed, the Centre's stance is positive and recognition is expected this session. The college is now awaiting its letter of permission (LOP). If permission comes, MBBS seats in the state's government medical colleges will rise from 675 to 775, 85 per cent of them to be filled from the state quota. After Pithoragarh, it will be another new government medical college in Uttarakhand where MBBS classes can start this session. (Source: Haldwani Live)
