Kichha: Farmers protest as paddy weighing has not started at government centres, warn of agitation if procurement does not begin by October 5

Angry that paddy weighing has not started at government centres, farmers protested on Saturday at the RFC weighing centre in the new mandi committee premises in Kichha. Farmer leader Jagroop Singh Gill alleged that at a meeting with the District Magistrate it had been agreed that weighing of paddy would start at government centres from October 1, but as of October 3 only banners have been put up at the centres. The department concerned says commission agents are not yet buying paddy. Farmers warned that if weighing does not start as per rules by October 5, they will launch an agitation.
