Pantnagar University: Women students must return to hostels by 6 pm, men by 10 pm; women call it discrimination

Women students at Pantnagar Agricultural University are angry over different hostel return times for men and women. The university has issued an order fixing 6 pm as the hostel entry time for women students from October 1, while for men it is 10 pm; in summer the rule for women is 7 pm. Women currently make up 62 per cent of the university's students. They call it gender discrimination and say they will take the matter to the Governor and the women's commission. According to Dean of Student Welfare Dr Vipin Chandra Dhyani, this rule on entry times has been in force since the university was founded, it has not been changed, and the new order was issued with reference to the same rule.
